Jayant Wadatkar

I am wildlife enthusiastic and regular birdwatcher; working in this field since past 18 years. Presently I am the Honorary Wildlife Warden of Amravati district.  I was awarded doctorate in 2007 on “Butterflies of Satpuda”. I am the author of three books in Marathi; Satpudyatil Kille (Forts in Satpuda); Sapanche Adbhut Vishva (about snakes) and Sagarmathyachya Paithyashi (about Everest Base Camp Expedition) also co-author of the book "Important Bird areas of Maharashtra”  published by OXFORD; BNHS  and WECS in 2014.  I have published 30 Research papers and notes on Birds, Butterflies and other wildlife issues as well as written so many popular articles in magazines and newspaper. I am also the State coordinator (Maharashtra) of Indian Bird Conservation Network (IBCN) of BNHS and joint secretary of Maharashtra Pakshimitra and Founder and secretary of Wildlife and Envoironment Conservation Society (WECS), Amravati. I am working in Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University as a Lab. Technician.

The book is co-authored by Dr. Asad R. Rahmani, Dr. Zafar-ul Islam, Dr. Raju Kasambe, and Dr. Jayant Wadatkar, and is published by Bombay Natural History Society, Mumbai, Wildlife and Environment Conservation Society, Amravati and Nagpur Birds, Nagpur.

"महाराष्ट्रातील महत्त्वाची पक्षीक्षेत्रे : संवर्धनासाठी प्राधान्य असणारी ठिकाणे" (“Important Bird Areas of Maharashtra: Priority Sites for Conservation” मराठी अनुवाद Marathi Translation) provides comprehensive information about the Important Bird Areas in the state of Maharashtra. It is a book in the series of books of the state-wise inventories of IBAs in India. The book has up-to-date scientific information on 20 important sites which need conservation attention. It contains information on seven additional sites which has been identified using the global IBA criteria set by BirdLife International, UK for the purpose. The book provides map of the 20 IBAs and is illustrated with 77 photographs. The book will be useful to the government agencies like the forest department, conservationists, researches and bird watchers alike.
